"The Sweet Pea American, `Lathyrus odoratus,' produces very lovely soft white flowers that feature crimson stripes on the petals. The stripes resemble exotic butterflies perched on a stem. This very old heirloom sweet pea traces back to 1896. This is a very fragrant summer bloomer, but the exact bloom time will depend on the weather. This is because the plants will usually stop blooming once the weather has warmed up. These plants are used for cut flowers and for covering fences and walls with proper support."
