Beefsteak Tomato

Lycopersicon lycopersicum

"The Tomato Beefsteak, `Lycopersicon lycopersicum,' produces huge tomatoes that can reach up to two pounds each. This old favorite is very meaty and thick, and perfect for sandwiches. These tomatoes are also useful in nearly any dish requiring a tomato flavor. Wire cages should be used to hold up the plants and fruits. The soil should be well drained and high in organic matter. In warmer regions, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for a harvest in the winter. When watering, the soil should be soaked to a depth of six to ten inches. The plants require at least six hours of direct sunlight every day."
