Prunus serotina
"The Black Cherry Tree, `Prunus serotina,' is one of the largest of the cherry trees, and typically grows to fifty to eighty feet in height with its narrow-columnar to rounded crown. It is native to eastern North America, Mexico and Central America. This tree produces hard, reddish-brown wood that will take a polish and is commonly used in commercial applications to make such items as furniture, veneers, cabinets, interior paneling, instrument/tool handles, musical instruments and gun stocks."
