Black Hills Spruce

Picea glauca
"The Black Hills Spruce, `Picea glauca var. densata,' is a very dense tree that exhibits a deep, dark green color. It is most noted for this dark foliage as well as its conical form. The tree is very cold adapted and is nearly impervious to winter injury with its hardiness range. Commonly used for windbreaks, accent plantings and privacy screens, the Black Hills Spruce is a great deer resistor. On a good location, the tree can reach a height of up to six feet in only nine years."
