Salix nigra

"The Black Willow Tree, `Salix nigra,' is a fast growing variety that will reach maturity within thirty years. This is a small to large, often shrub-like, short-lived deciduous tree. Growing to a height of about fifty feet, Black Willow has shallow, laterally extensive roots that make them a good choice for wet locations and stream banks. It is also known by the names Swamp Willow, Goodding Willow, Southwestern Black Willow, Dudley Willor and Sauz tree."
