Brandywine Tomato

Lycopersicon lycopersicum

"The Tomato Pole Brandywine, `Lycopersicon lycopersisum,' is an old Amish heirloom tomato that dates back to 1885 and was passed down from generation to generation. This is considered by most to be the best tasting tomato in the entire world. It is a pink beefsteak variety of tomato, and has thin skin with a rich flavor. They need a minimum of six hours of direct sunlight daily to remain healthy. This variety is an intermediate tomato, which means that the plant will continue to produce until the first frost. The plants should always be pruned in order to maintain a single stem."
