Bright Lights Mix Swiss Chard

Beta vulgaris (Cicla group)

"The Swiss Chard Bright Lights, `Beta vulgaris (Cicla group),' is a wonderfully colorful vegetable. Its stems come in colors that include yellow, gold, orange, pink, purple or intermediate shades of these colors. The leaves of Bright Lights are believed by many to be tastier than spinach. The crunchy stalks have the texture of celery, but have a slight asparagus taste to them. This variety has an improved, lighter flavor that is simply delicious when added raw to salads. The seeds should be planted in late summer for an autumn/winter crop. Chards grow best in well draining soils that are high in organic matter."
