Butterfly Flower

Aschepias tuberosa L.
"The Butterfly flower, `Aschepias tuberosa L,' is a definite must for any butterfly garden. The vivid red-orange flowers of this vigorous perennial shrub-like plant are hunted down by Monarch butterflies. The individual flowers are a half-inch long, and borne in brilliant red clusters that bloom in the summer. The flowers are followed by decorative green seedpods. The seeds should be planted after all danger of frost has passed, and up to eight weeks before the first fall frost. The blooms make excellent cut flowers."
