California Mikado Poppy

Eschscholzia californica
"The California Poppy Mikado, `Eschscholzia californica,' is a perennial flower that is most often grown as an annual. The dramatic and unusual scarlet-orange flowers look fantastic in mass plantings or wildflower areas. The foliage of this plant will often overwinter in zones seven through eleven. The two to three inch flowers have four delicate petals each. Commonly used as a cut flower or in the prevention of soil erosion, the seed of a Mikado Poppy should be planted in the fall of warmer climates for impressive spring color."
