"The Melon Charentais, `Cucumis melo,' features a mouth-watering aroma and succulent, honey-sweet taste. This is the most popular melon in all of France. This is a type of cantaloupe from Europe that is actually a muskmelon. The smooth skin with light green stripes will mature to a creamy yellow. Its orange flesh is fine-textured, delightfully scented and very sweet. The seeds should be planted in the spring, about one to two weeks before the last average frost date, or when the soil temperatures begin to warm up."
