Chickasaw Plum

Prunus angustifolia
"The Chickasaw Plum Tree, `Prunus angustifolia,' occurs naturally in thickets, pastures, fencerows, fields, disturbed areas and stream banks. This is a deciduous, multi-stemmed shrub that may be pruned to a small tree. It is sometimes seen as a small, short-trunked tree that grows to only twenty-five feet tall. Its beautiful, five-petaled white flowers appear along the stems in March, well before the foliage emerges. This is a true ornamental flowering tree, and the Native Americans regularly consumed the fresh fruit or dried it for winter."
