"The Chinese Lantern, `Physalis alkekengi franchetii,' is very popular, mainly due to its brilliant color, unique shape and ease of growth. Its bright orange, lantern shaped seed cases have a papery texture and will simply glow in any garden in late summer. It also produces flowers that are small, white and star shaped with calyces that enlarge and change from green to red-orange in the fall. This beautiful plant is sometimes referred to as the Winter Cherry."
