Chinese South Privet

Ligustrum sinense
"The Chinese South Privet, `Ligustrum sinense,' is most commonly found invading the under-story of moist areas. This is an abundant, semi-evergreen plant that can be either a small tree or large shrub. It produces copious amounts of berries that will turn black once they are ripe. The berries are commonly eaten by birds, which help to spread the seeds far and wide. Its very dense foliage is sometimes so thick that nothing is able to grow underneath it. With dark green leaves and pretty white flowers in the late spring, this privet bush can reach a height of fifteen feet."
