"The Chinkapin Oak Tree, `Quercus muehlenbergii,' can be found occurring as a dominant species on rocky alkaline soils. This is the limestone equivalent of the chestnut oak. This is a medium sized, deciduous tree in the White Oak family that will grow to forty to sixty feet tall with an open and globular crown. The Chinkapin Oak tree, also known as the Yellow Chestnut oak, is quite tolerant of tough sites."
