"The Potentilla Gold Drop, `Potentilla fruticosa,' is a deciduous shrub that will grow best in full sunlight, and will flower throughout the summer months if it is trimmed in late June or July. Also known and Shrubby Cinquefoil, this Potentilla produces attractive, yellow buttercup flowers. It is always best to thin this plant during late winter by cutting back about one third of the older stems near the ground. This shrub also serves as a butterfly nectar source and can be host to butterfly larvae."
