"The Onion Shallot Golden Gourmet, `Allium cepa,' will produce an oval or elongated bulb, formed in clusters on a common base. This spring planted bulb produces a shallot with less pronounced flavor than allowing it to mature into a true onion. Considered an essential in French cooking, shallots have a flavor that is somewhere between onions and garlic. Planting onion bulbs is always the surest route to home garden success. The greens of this onion should be used in a manner similar to green onions or chives. For best results, the bulbs should be planted in any loose, fertile soil."
