Spice Bush

Lindera bezoin
"The Spicebush, `Lindera bezoin,' produces clusters of tiny, aromatic, greenish-yellow flowers along its branches in early spring before the leaves emerge. This native deciduous shrub will grow to six to twelve feet high with a broad, rounded habit. The flowers of female plants will give way to bright red drupes, « inch long, that will mature in fall and are very attractive to songbirds. A male pollinator plant will be required for the female plants to set fruit. The spicebush is able to grow in full shade, but will become more open and wide spreading."
