Calycanthus floridus

"The Sweetshrub, `Calycanthus floridus,' will grow to six to nine feet tall with an equal to slightly greater spread. Also called the Carolina allspice, this dense, rounded shrub has a suckering habit and features very fragrant, brown to reddish-brown flowers. The two-inch blooms grow at the ends of short branchlets in May. This specimen grows nicely near a front door, patio or other living area when the fragrant aroma can be enjoyed. It is also commonly grown in shrub borders, foundations and native plant areas."
